Then in 2006 I made this PC game called Galcon that didn’t really take off. Indie game developer Phil Hassey has enjoyed a steady stream of successes, an uncommon feat. It now includes 7 different computer opponents, network play, much improved graphics, etc. Indie game developer Phil Hassey has enjoyed a steady stream of successes, an uncommon feat. The game was developed over the six months after the LD competition. It won the contest with first places in four categories and second place in the fifth. There are fifteen different missions with variations on the basic gameplay. Phil Hassey (phil) Galcon was originally created for the April 2006 Ludum Dare competition. In the basic game the player is presented different kinds of challenges with varying amount of opponents. The only controls at the player's disposal is to move spaceships between planets, fortifying areas under attack and attacking planets that are defenceless. Typically each player starts in a randomly generated galaxy with a single planet under their control. As the name implies, you'll be breaking things - bricks, namely - as you try to overcome a challenge that may or may not be infinite. Starting with an amount of units on a single planet, the player conquers planets which in turn have a production value to produce spaceships which are then used to attack unoccupied planets, enemy planets or defend against enemy attacks. Phil Hassey - who you might recognise from his work on Galcon or Dynamite Jack - has announced his next game, Breakfinity.

This version of the game is another remake by the same author first launched for Windows in 2006 and it is entirely different from his original 1995 version.

The DOS Galcon game was first conceived in 1995 by Phil Hassey and in the years leading up to 2000 re-made various times with different browsers versions. Galcon Fusion is a fast-paced multi-player galactic arcade-strategy game, now with improved HD graphics, a full soundtrack, and a variety of exciting new multi-player modes. I have a feeling I'll be revisiting that function inlining code.Description Galcon is an action-based strategy game, reminiscent of the classic board game Risk, and inspired by Galactic Conquest (1987) and Stellar Invasion (presumably 1986).  Before each level, you load out with three mutation.  You move your swarm of vira from cell to cell, expanding your population and avoiding autoimmune cells as you go.  It features game play that is very similar to Phil Hassey’s Galcon with a 3D play surface. So many brains to pick and ideas to bounce around. The game we ended up with at the end of the day is called Pathogen. The evenings tended to consist of game playing (galcon or board games) during and after which there was more discussion of various things. I spent some time tutoring, writing a little game for Abbey, rewriting the sprite engine in pyglet, talking through design issues with Pete and Phil Hassey and also chatting about the OLPC project with those sprinters. A highlight was the Python newbie asking "who wrote pygame?" to which the response was pointing across the room to Pete Shinners "he's over there", and then "the guy who wrote PyOpenGL is over there, and the guy who wrote Python is over there" (Mike and Guido sprinting in the same room). Everyone seemed to have fun doing so, and there's now a few more people comfortable with the toolkits, which was the ultimate goal.

Mostly people used the exercise to learn pygame or PyOpenGL (or even in one case Python as well!) and write a game at the same time. The armadas can be re-directed in mid-flight, and planets will produce new spaceships over time. In this game, you must click on planets to launch armadas of little spaceships against your opponents’ planets. You send swarms of ships from planet to planet to take over the galaxy. A few of us messed around writing games along the theme of "small" (with extremely loose interpretation ). Galcon is a high-paced multi-player galactic action-strategy game.

The "Game Sprint" has been about as disorganised as I'd expected. Galcon is a series of video games for Android, iPhone, Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and Flash, which were developed by Phil Hassey. There's a general consensus that four days is too many - the strongest evidence being that there's very few of us actually left. It's the fourth and final day of sprinting here at P圜on. Like other games in the Galcon series, it is set in outer space and involves maneuvering fleets of ships to capture enemy planets.
